# Nobody knows what they're doing Remember being a kid and thinking the adults knew what to do? As we grow older, it becomes increasingly apparent - nobody actually does. We're all just doing our best to figure it out. This is life's great secret. There are no rules and literally everything is made up. People with agendas and a reason to push will do so with whatever force they can muster. Advertisements, television shows, music, movies, books, social media, speeches, sermons, etc. - these are just different attempts at persuasion. Some folks will posture as if they know "the way" and attempt to portray confidence so others will follow. Religious, business and political leaders come to mind. They want us to think they have it figured out...but they don't either. Religion points to influential text and "god" to try and force their chosen morality on the masses (effectively I might add). This has been an effective tool to organize people, probably because the scripture has been passed down through generations and it is easy to perceive as being written by the omnipotent. But historians know now the Bible was written by people, so the charade begins to crumble for those who take a peek under the hood. Business rules with coin, so people are happy to pretend their bosses are in the know. Politicians are able to force us to accept their ideology through military might. At the end of the day, however, we aren't following these people because they have "it" figured out. We follow them because they have power and resources or are easier to accept as truth than thinking for ourselves. We SHOULD be following people due to merit, specifically integrity, not station or money. Those who make decisions for the betterment of humanity, not just themselves, are the people we should hold on a pedestal. The greatest people are those who positively and materially impact the lives of other people. Individuals who do their best in this arena STILL don't know what they're doing, but in their journey to find out we see the closest thing to leadership which may exist in our species. These are the people who can and hopefully will be the ones to push humanity forward. These are the creatures who should be emulated. Just not too much.
