It is a sticky film which perverts our view of the world, yet we often times cannot see it on us. Defined by the Oxford dictionary as "excessive pride or self-confidence." What I've seen in my experience is how arrogance will actually turn an otherwise beautiful soul into a nightmare. Their open-mindedness is closed off. They have complete conviction they are correct about everything that comes out of their mouths. The gentle dewdrop of their curiosity turns into venom inflicted upon those who disagree with them. Their inclination to help others turns into martyrdom. Nasty business. The tricky part too is the person of hubris at the same time becomes more defensive about what they think they know and less capable of being questioned or challenged about their beliefs. To further compound the issue, they attach their identity to their beliefs, so anything not in complete agreement with those beliefs becomes an attack on them as a human. Even nastier. #original
