Recently, as you know if you've been tagging along the blogging journey with me, I've quit almost everything I've been working on to focus on honing my craft.
After literally 24 hours in, the results have been incredible.
First and foremost - my mental bandwidth has been cleared up.
Very few things, now being on the other side of foggy mind vs. clarity, are worth the foggy mind, especially short term cash.
The exhale that comes with the removal of unnecessary weight on your shoulders is legendary.
All of the things I was worried about trying to remember or do are gone. The responsibilities melted away in an instant, and the inner clenching of panic that I didn't realize was there released me from its clutches.
I feel more alive today than I have in a while.
Now, the reasons why I did this were thought through significantly.
I MUST optimize for doing work in which I intend to become a [[Watching the master|craftsman]]. So I whittled down everything that isn't related. Personally, the work is the art of communication, which right now is mostly manifesting itself in writing as my passion / hobby and sales in M&A as my profession.
I may at a later date add on podcasting as an additional hobby so I can speak to and learn from incredible people, but even the thought of doing that is making the tightness start to return.
For now I am going to continue to remove literally everything until the only things are writing & sales.
If you're feeling spread too thin or general restlessness in your life, you may want to consider destroying your previous obligations (with integrity of course) and moving on. Focus on [[Watching the master|honing a craft]], one that you find yourself naturally drawn to.
I'm always reading, asking questions, seeking knowledge, and communicating with people. It fills me with joy and I get a lot from it. So I decided to double down and take on the challenge of becoming a craftsman.
What can you cut which would make you feel better instantly? What makes you uneasy? What dominates your mental bandwidth?
Kill it with fire.
